[on behalf of Neil Heffernan]

Dear EDMers,

I’d like to invite you to attend an AAAI workshop
<https://linkprotect.cudasvc.com/url?a=https%3a%2f%2fsites.google.com%2fview%2ftipce-2021%2fhome&c=E,1,PAgIP7phiJD0TDg0glcO2V49IYW_u2zay5645gZhrOQKdlNVovd7Sl-iI-nhiaatGF90qyF9LWW22C87zWx6Z7vK5K83Pub7xkSzoiXL&typo=1>
I
am co-hosting that is related to AI in Education–with an accompanying
data-mining competition. Last I checked, over 300 people have already
registered so it will be a “buzzy” event. I have hosted a few competitions
in the past, but there is nothing like offering a $100,000 prize to get
folks interested (we have over 3,000 Kaggle participants!)
<https://linkprotect.cudasvc.com/url?a=https%3a%2f%2fwww.kaggle.com%2fc%2friiid-test-answer-prediction&c=E,1,p1_zIwk-YgI7H3zoS1WMyMZP0B-kCQEjVKGM1E8mxG_4F5eBEUsBTlPV6BlNH8PIS99BiVc65Wk8t_1WExOHFTZW5HsKDqdIidA3De0tJo8rNaJKzbYqKbM,&typo=1>
  Riiid
<https://linkprotect.cudasvc.com/url?a=https%3a%2f%2fwww.riiid.co%2fen%2fmain&c=E,1,DJz3_bYCn17ELjOVR5uojEfBOC8q7Lo5W2WCBplLbalPd-3-2CwlfD5TmkSDjEMHzPLoCwj-2r3mAXwgEZ9OsN0wsouNJCKeMvibbQn1v6FNm6AtjQ,,&typo=1>:
a korean company gave out this huge data set and sponsored the prize. The
competition to see who could do a good job of predicting the next problem
correctness of students.

This workshop should be interesting! We have a great set of panels, in
addition to talks. I asked some folks who have used ASSISTments data
<https://sites.google.com/site/assistmentsstudies/useourdata> before their
paper to write papers applying their past method to this biggest data
ever.   So some normal EDMers like *Phi Pavlik* (inventor of PFA) and* Benoît
Choffin* (best paper at EDM 2019) will be talking about what they learned.
I will lead an impromptu panel discussion that I bet will be very lively!

Another featured panel will focus on funding, and I will be asking some
questions that I hope many will want answered. Panelists will include *Mark
Schneider*, the head of the U.S. Department of Education’s Institute for
Educational Sciences; *Amy Baylor*, the NSF program officer who oversees
the AI Institute grants; as well as representatives from the philanthropic
organizations *Schmidt Futures* and *The Gates Foundation*.

I hope you can join us! You can register here
